Teen Counseling

When summer turns to fall we often do not feel ready.  We long for more days of summer and become saddened by the thought of shorter, colder days ahead.    Over time, we may begin to let in the beauty and benefit of the new season. &n…

“People say teenagers think they’re immortal, and I agree with that. But I think there’s a difference between thinking you’re immortal and knowing you can survive. Thinking you’re immortal leads to arrogance, thinking you deserve the best. Surviving means having the worst thrown at you and being able to continue on despite that. It means striving for what you want most, even when it seems out of your reach, even when everything is working against you.”

TEENAGERS

Working with teenagers is often some of the most rewarding work we do as therapists, due to them possessing a great capacity for honest reflection, coupled with the still flexible nature of the teenage mind. The teenage world is filled with new experiences, risk taking, and rejections. Unfortunately, social media has created a culture where teens have to market themselves to feel good about themselves. Teens thrive when they have a trusted adult outside the family system who will help them navigate these complex challenges of the teenage years. Best case scenario, your teen learns to fail gracefully, finding the meaning and growth in difficult times.

At Denver Wellness Counseling, our therapists have helped hundreds of teens with a wide variety of teen-specific problems, including academic issues, family conflict, behavioral issues, peer pressure, social isolation, bullying, low self-esteem, trauma, and depression. At times, parents may be surprised about something they see or learn related to their child on social media and need support in addressing the issue. Teenagers often benefit from therapy during times of transition, such as starting out at a new school, or preparing to transition from high school to college.

Teen Counseling at Denver Wellness Counseling, starts with finding the right fit for your teen. Relationships are the center of an adolescent's world, and therapy is most effective when they find someone they can trust and connect with. Our approach to counseling with teenagers is to be authentic, honest, and straightforward. There are moments where humor is not only appropriate, but necessary to help adolescent clients feel at-ease and open to being vulnerable.
